Which Is The Right White?

White is always a good choice. It’s timeless and extremely versatile, which leads one to believe picking a white window treatment would be a walk in the park. However, once presented with the various whites available for your home you may feel a tad overwhelmed. You’re not alone.

Picking the right white can be a task, but our Design Advisors, in partnership with Interior Designer, Jessica Faircloth of Lemongrass Interiors, have put together this quick list of pointers to help you make the right choice.

1. Understand Undertones

You may have learned already from picking flooring or paint that all colors have undertones. White is no different, so it’s important to understand undertones and how they affect the color. When looking at samples of Faux Wood Blinds you are going to notice whites with yellow, blue, green, brown, and pink undertones. So which do you pick?

Start by looking at your room and identifying which color is your primary color and you want to highlight. Choose the white with the undertone that matches your room. For example, if you have a cool-toned décor, such as greys, blues, or some greens, you want to select a white that has cool undertones. In contrast, if your room has warm tones such as browns, reds, and oranges you should select warmer tones.

2. Order Swatches Or Schedule A Visit

It’s impossible to tell what tones are most prevalent by photos alone, so our Design Advisors recommend either scheduling a free consultation so we can bring the samples to you or ordering samples online for free. If you’re wanting to order all the sample colors shown put “Faux Wood White Samples” in the order field.

Solana Shades in partnership with our manufacturer Alta Window Fashions provides every customer with up to 10 free samples of any window treatment product.

3. Tape Samples

Once you receive your free samples our Interior Designer, Jessica, recommends you tape the samples to your wall, preferably in sunlight, to see which color compares best to your trim and wall color. We recommend leaving them tapes to your window for a few days so you can see how they look at different times of the day.

Do you notice one looking more brown or yellow? That’s the undertones coming out. Choose the white that looks most neutral - that’s the one that matches your room’s tone.

4. Match The Trim

If you’re seeing multiple samples matching your room and can’t decide, match the trim. Use the tape method directly on the trim to see which matches your trim color best.

5. Avoid Yellow

While a yellow undertone may be best for you, it’s important to avoid going too yellow. Put simply, choosing a color that is too yellow can make the blinds look old or dirty. Always lean to a more cool or more neutral color.
