Floridians are accustom to preparing for hurricanes. We all have checklists we go through when a hurricane in imminent. Occasionally, as seen over the years, all we can do is protect our property and ourselves to the best of our ability and focus on minimizing damaged. Here’s a tip that may surprise you - close your window treatments.

This surprisingly simple tip could help prevent much of the damage caused by a broken window. In the event that one of your windows breaks, having another barrier from the storm and the inside of your home could stop much of the wind, rain, and debris from entering your home. While this does put your window treatment at risk of damage, it’s a small sacrifice to make which could prevent excess water from damaging your floors, walls, and furniture.

So, what to do with wet window treatments? Many of our treatments are water resistant, which means you can close the treatment to expose as much of the treatment as possible to fresh, flowing air to help dry everything out. In the event that it’s a fabric treatment, dry the material as quickly as possible. For cleaning tips, see our care guides in the resource center.

If your treatment’s head rail is damaged or wet, it is important to dry this quickly and carefully to prevent corrosion. When in doubt, reach out to us so we can assist in getting your life back to normal.
